Chelsea rejected Arsenal offer for David Luiz

Chelsea have reportedly rejected a €20.10 million offer from Arsenal for Brazilian defender David Luiz.

Luiz has made almost 200 appearances for Chelsea over two stints  but endured a frustration campaign during the 2017/2018 season.

He started as the blues first-choice centre-back but it was dropped to bench after Chelsea were humilated  3-0 by Roma in Italy in the UEFA Champion League after which Andreas Christensen impressed the coach in the position.

Luiz struggled with persistent injury problems after Christmas and played just five matches for Chelsea in 2018.

He has been  linked with a move to Italian clubs this summer but has also emerged as a surprise target for the Gunners.

It was reported by Le10 Sport that the Gunners submitted an official offer for the Brazilian but saw their £17.6m approach knocked back by the FA Cup holders Chelsea.

Arsenal, is it claimed, are now considering whether to return with an improved bid as they look to secure defensive signings for new manager Unai Emery.

The 31 years old could still have a future at Stamford Bridge, however, particularly if Antonio Conte does indeed leave the club.

Conte was expected to be sacked following the FA Cup  triumph over Manchester United but he remains in charge as the World Cup is set to begin.

It was also reported former Chelsea defender Alex has advised the player to stay in Chelsea and fight for his shirt.
