If Locke was right, should Nigerian government remains? by Salaam Rasak O.

The gory report that 30 innocent lives were wasted yesterday at Offa, Kwara State as a result of armed robbery attack on commercial banks shattered my nerves and destabilized my thoughts.

I decided that I will devote today's subject matter to admonishing the government, unconsciously knowing that Nigeria has been turned to a killing field where 1,351 innocent lives were lost in just 10 weeks of 2018. To be candid, there is no need oiling the surface again, my following hitherto article is a sort of security reminder and admonition.

. . .

‘Only in a state of nature that a festive period is greeted with unimaginable catastrophe. The first day in the fledgling year 2018 will remain an unforgettable disastrous day for the family and friends of the victims of the monstrous cultists in Rivers, also the victims of Fulani marauders and others caught in the web of outright lawlessness.

This is heart rending. The degree of security of lives and property in modern times have been seriously undervalued particularly in the hands of Fulani herders who have received little or no condemnation and brutal consternation from the government of the day. It is all more saddening that over 23 victims of the monstrous acts of this deadly herders were given mass burial amid reactionary indifference. If the faux pas of President Muhammadu Buhari is to be mentioned, his manner of handling this terrorist group takes the lead. Enough is enough, a leeway should be explored now.

More unfortunately, the rhetorics of crippling this agent of oppression has been accompanied with blur practical steps. Against this backdrop, it has generated a widening reaction that the Fulani herdsmen phenomenon is being politicized and shielded consequent upon the fact that they are of the same lineage. This is a notion Buhari must wrong with needed pragmatism. The wanton death of innocent souls call for urgent admonition. It is a truism that anomie at hand go beyond Fulani herdsmen, from Boko Haram to cultism, kidnapping, baddo group among others, the agents of disaster tend to loom larger than life. As a step in the right direction, all available state power should be dedicated to fighting these menaces. As stated by the English Philosopher, John Locke, the primary function of the government is "the perpetuation and preservation of human lives and property", this should not be left undone.’

If Locke was right, should Nigerian government remains?
